2020 has been a challenging year for all of us. After our 60-day tour of 11 cities in France, UK and Sweden at the beginning of the year, we have been stationed at our home base in Taiwan since March. We are very lucky in Taiwan with an effective prevention of COVID-19 spread and theaters re-opened in July.
SOUNDING LIGHT, our new production premiered in October at the National Theater Taipei. We took dancers on a two day hike up the grand HeHuan Mountains (3,422m). We discovered new movements as we adapted our feet, legs and bodies to the mountainous terrain. In this new work, dancers not only danced, they sung, they sounded, they created an entire forest with their vocals on stage.

Listen to a sound bite of the forest soundscape dancers created here.

As we head into 2021, we are in continuous dialogue to hopefully realize our international encounters with you soon. Our 2021 plans for Taiwan include a national 6 cities tour of 13 TONGUES in May/June, annual outdoor performances, and outreach projects to go further into regions and schools that will experience Cloud Gate for the first time.
We have digitally brought you LUNAR HALO, MOON WATER and RETROSPECTIVE OF LIN HWAI-MIN this year. Our latest digital aspiration is a 4-episode docuseries on a look into the Taiwanese culture via people, colors, architecture, folklores, traditions through the lens of 13 TONGUES. We look forward to premiering the series online in March 2021. Please stay in close watch for updates, or join us at our new twitter account @cloudgatedance.
2021 will not be easier for us in the performing arts, but we are certain, that we stand together in solidarity and will emerge with a capacity to reach new heights.
We wish you good health and peace through these trying times. Have an adventurous and rewarding new year.
