留得殘荷聽雨聲

作為台灣科技業代表人物的林百里先生,一直追求科技與人文的結合。本身不僅以張大千與宋代美學的豐富收藏名聞華人圈,其實自大學時期就已經深深著迷於攝影藝術。就讀台大電機系時曾擔任台大攝影社社長,即使在四十年來繁忙的科技工作之餘,也不曾忘懷攝影。此幅《留得殘荷聽雨聲》,殘荷、枯莖、垂蓬,錯落有致,倒映池面。敏感的光影,交疊的層次,詩意的秋景,令人想起李商隱的名句:「留得殘荷聽雨聲」。

 

然而此幅宛若國畫意境般的枯荷殘照,其實經過無數次的後製技術調整。特別將二張方形的荷塘照片左右相接,擴大了寒潭荷殘的孤寂氛圍,也形成目前所見的橫幅形制。並進一步將局部銳利化、移除畫面不必要的殘莖,甚而從別張荷塘照片移來相應的荷枝與垂蓬。歷經十天的反覆修改,只為了呈現完美意境的寒潭荷影。郎靜山曾名噪一時的「集錦攝影」,乃是利用暗房曝光的交替重疊,組合成國畫山水般的意境。此幅《留得殘荷聽雨聲》也是運用現代豐富的攝影後製技巧,在照片中追求如張大千潑墨般的水墨畫境。

 

在張大千潑墨荷花中,慣常以四屏的形制,在畫面中呈現如樂章般的起、承、轉、合的節奏感。此作也暗自安排了四段的轉折:從左方以銳利修長的荷莖作為起首,意味著銳意進取的少年階段;畫面向右,隨著荷葉漸茂,意味著人生壯年;再右,則是莖桿、荷葉、垂蓬疊疊交錯,譜出宛若樂章中的高潮;最右則是最後境界,空蕩的水面上漂浮片片楓葉,正映襯著岸上楓樹的倒影。葉已離枝,不失本源。既呼應了張大千的潑墨荷花,也更細膩地呈現個人性的體會與細節,讓人反覆尋味。

Barry Lam, acclaimed entrepreneur, founder and Chairman of Quanta Computer Inc., in true Renaissance style, has embraced his creativity not only in business but also in the arts. One of his first passions in life was photography as art, encouraged by his father to be practical and study engineering, he regretfully gave up any of idea of pursuing photography as a career. However, his passion has stayed with him throughout his life. He has also immersed himself in understanding traditional Chinese ink and brush painting, becoming a connoisseur of and acknowledged expert in the nature of this art form. Combining these two passions, photography, and the nature of Chinese art, he now creates works of exceptional depth, beauty and sensibility.
 
Immensely influenced by the play of light and shadow of the black and white photography of his youth, and grounded in the concept of balance and harmony in Chinese art, during a stroll on a cool autumnal evening, he came across this small pond with the last vestiges of lotus plants. For a short moment, the scene was suddenly bathed in exceptional light from the setting sun, and this moment of captivating beauty, stillness, and perfect harmony was captured for posterity.
