13 TONGUES, a dance about cultural memories, will be re-staged around Taiwan from April 11 throughout June 13

2021.03.31

Incorporating folk dance, religious rites, Japanese nakashi music, and Taoist chanting into a contemporary expression by telling a story in old Taipei, Cloud Gate Artistic Director CHENG Tsung-lung’s 2016 work 13 TONGUES will be restaged in 7 cities around Taiwan, including Tamsui, Taoyuan, Yuanlin, Chaiyi, Tainan, Hualien, and Pingtung, from April 11 throughout June 13, 2021.

Despite its international acclaims earned from overseas, including Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, Paris, Sadler's Wells in London, and Dansens Hus in Stockholm, 13 TONGUES, this local culture-inspired work, was actually only presented in three metropolises of Taiwan during its 2016 premiere season due to then schedule conflicts. To share this creative work with more people in Taiwan, CHENG retouched this work and gave it a fresh face of 2021 for this Taiwan tour. The audience will be also able to enjoy a special video watching about the making of and the inspiration behind 13 TONGUES after each performance.
