Since 1996, with the warm support of Cathay Financial Holdings, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan has brought dance to towns and cities all over Taiwan, inviting people to come together under the open sky and share unforgettable moments. Over nearly 30 years, 68 outdoor performances have welcomed more than 2.65 million people, becoming a treasured memory for families and friends. Called “the world’s largest outdoor dance event” by international media, the Cloud Gate Outdoor Performance continues to bring art closer to life and connect communities across generations.

LUNAR HALO

Cloud Gate Artistic Director CHENG Tsung-lung first observed a LUNAR HALO - when light is refracted through layers of ice crystals in the atmosphere to produce a sparkling ring around the moon - in the sky over Iceland. The phenomenon is thought to presage a storm and in some ancient societies is taken as a more foreboding sign of impending change.

Working with the Icelandic band Sigur Rós, CHENG now explores the changes that are shaping our world today, particularly our increasing reliance on communicating through new technology.Performing to a hauntingly ethereal soundtrack, the dancers interact with each other - in pairs, groups, or as an ensemble - as well as with multiple large LED panels that are filled with fluidly moving shapes, colors, and images so that their sheer physicality highlights one of the essential questions of our age: if we can satisfy our needs and desires with just a few taps of a screen, what is the purpose of the human body?

DANCE ALL AROUND

Celebrating 30 years of Cloud Gate’s iconic outdoor performances, Cathay x Cloud Gate presents an exclusive after-party like no other. Right after LUNAR HALO, the stage dissolves and the dance floor comes alive. Legendary musician LIM Giong joins forces with new media collective Dimension + to create a vibrant fusion of music, movement, and real-time AI visuals. Cloud Gate dancers will guide the audience in finding their own movements, inviting everyone to step into the music and celebrate together. For one unforgettable night, the dance floor becomes our shared stage—a celebration of rhythm, connection, and 30 years of unforgettable moments.
