Facing the Body, Where Light Emerges.

Founded in 2019 by Wang Yeu-Kwn and Lee Yin-Ying, Shimmering Production focuses on exploring and questioning the body while creating contemporary dance works. They also launched the Hand in Hand, We Dance arts initiative, advocating that everyone has a body, and through breathing, we can create our own light through movement.

Since 2020, Shimmering Production has been developing “A Trilogy – Quest of Relationships”, focusing on exploring the relationships between the body and the world on different scales. The first episode, Beings, is a duet performed alongside paper and ink, which has gained international attention. It has been invited to perform in Japan, Greece, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and France. Beings has also been selected as a finalist for The Rose Prize 2025 at Sadler's Wells in London.

The second episode, Islands, premiered at the 2024 Artquake in Autumn at the National Theater & Concert Hall, followed by domestic and international tours. Both works were respectively shortlisted as finalists for the 2025 and 2027 Sadler's Wells Rose International Dance Prize in London, making them the first international artists to be consecutively nominated for this prestigious honor.

In 2025, Shimmering Production was named Creative Person of the Year in La Vie's Taiwan Creative 100 Biennial Awards. The company continues to tour internationally with its creations while staying true to its somatic roots—breathing together with the public and creating the body's micro-light.

RESIDENCY PROJECT

Hand in Hand, We Dance

Shimmering Production is making its first-ever residency at Cloud Gate Theater, inviting the public to dance together. Through physical presence and participation, dance extends beyond the stage—it happens naturally within space, becoming a tangible bodily experience.

Starting from the body and taking breath as the starting point, participants build awareness and understanding through movement, slowly rediscovering how to use their bodies. This allows dancing to unfold from everyday life, opening up more possibilities between diffusion and transformation.

This residency unfolds across two main directions: in community workshops, starting from everyday movements and extending into fluid relational dynamics among individuals, pairs, and groups; and in intergenerational workshops, using the body as a shared medium where different generations encounter one another through action and response, exchanging their own experiences and feelings.

At Cloud Gate Theater, dance is no longer just something to watch—it is actively happening.

Hand in Hand, We Dance

Hand in Hand, We Dance aims to bring dance out of the theater and back into daily life. Taking the everyday as our starting point, we develop diverse and flexible guidance methods, inviting families, teenagers, office workers, and seniors to explore their bodies through play and imagination. Through breath, awareness, and stretching, we guide participants in gradually building perception and trust, weaving together their very own dances. This transforms the experience from mere physical training into a journey back to the senses and back to life.

Cloud Gate Theater is more than just a place to watch performances; it aspires to be a welcoming, familiar presence in everyone's daily lives. This time, Shimmering Production opens the theater doors, inviting residents of all generations in Tamsui to step into Cloud Gate. Starting from the body, through breathing, movement, and mutual interaction, participants rediscover their physical selves and respond to their own lives.

Regardless of age or prior dance experience, Hand in Hand, We Dance invites you to move your body. Beginning with simple imitation and following along, participants gently loosen up through natural interaction. Gradually, they incorporate their own ideas, finding different bodily possibilities between movement and sensation. Here, there are no right or wrongs, no rigid frameworks—your bends, turns, or pauses are the most unique interpretations of music and space, ultimately allowing everyone to find their own personal way of dancing.

Beyond Cloud Gate Theater, Hand in Hand, We Dance also steps into community corners, reaching into the everyday spaces of senior citizens. Guiding grandparents to gently move their fingers and stretch their limbs, interacting like playing catch and echoing one another, participants don’t need to stand for the whole session or worry about keeping up—they can bring vitality back to their bodies even while seated. Seeing seniors smile and sway freely to the beat, dance is no longer a distant performance, but a gentle way to step into daily life and accompany everyone toward better health.

Following the rhythm, participants pat their thighs and roll their shoulders. Once the movements flow smoothly, the youthful vitality remembered by the body naturally resurfaces. Moving while chatting, teasing each other about whose moves look more professional, the once-quiet activity center instantly comes alive. Through face-to-face companionship time and again, Shimmering Production brings physical openness into the lives of seniors, allowing this local connection to genuinely warm every corner of daily community life.

Whether stepping into Cloud Gate Theater, walking on the open grass, or visiting the everyday space of a neighborhood activity center, what Shimmering Production aims to do is invite everyone to move together in the most approachable and understandable ways possible. Dancing requires no grand theories, nor does it depend on age or prior experience; starting from breathing, walking, and stretching, we listen to the body's truest responses. Together, we dance across the different corners of Tamsui, allowing dance to naturally weave into everyone's lives.

Through physical connection, the theater is no longer a distant hall for passive viewing, but a grand living room truly integrated into the local neighborhood. From intergenerational co-learning interactions to the bright smiles of community elders, every wave of the hand and every step quietly builds bridges of trust and warmth between people. In the future, Shimmering Production will continue walking beneath the breeze and sunshine of Tamsui, bringing more people along to dance out their own lifestyles, allowing the joy of moving the body to continue extending and spreading long and wide across this land.
