Cloud Gate and Cathay Financial Celebrate 30 Years of Annual Outdoor Performances

Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, in partnership with Cathay Financial Holdings, welcomed over 35,000 audience members to Taipei’s National Theater Plaza on August 2 for its signature annual outdoor performance, a tradition now in its 30th year.

This year’s program featured Lunar Halo, choreographed by Cloud Gate Artistic Director CHENG Tsung-lung, bringing the company’s distinctive blend of artistry and community spirit to a vast, open-air audience. Despite an afternoon thunderstorm, crowds gathered hours in advance, filling the plaza with anticipation.

The evening opened with pre-show warm-ups led by Cloud Gate Dance School. After the performance, the plaza transformed into a “Community Dance Floor”, choreographed to invite audiences to dance alongside Cloud Gate’s performers. Set to live electronic music by LIM Giong with AI-generated visuals by Dimension Plus, the event turned the city’s heart into a pulsating celebration of movement.

Cathay Financial General Manager LEE Chang-ken reflected: “For 30 years, Cathay has brought Cloud Gate’s performances to every corner of Taiwan. Tonight’s shared joy is a testament to that enduring partnership.”
