Multiplication

Blending his own movement style into the bodies of TAO dancers who have long been trained in techniques of TAO Dance Theater, Cheng Tsung-lung creates dizzyingly yet orderly patterns of movement in his Multiplication, expecting a result of multiplication.

Cheng Tsung-lung's Multiplication was part of the triple-bill program EXCHANGE, which had been staged on tour across Taiwan and Mainland China in 2019 and received critical acclaims.

A dance critic so describes this work: “Where one thing multiplies another and then goes on and on, where the law of life grows.”

EXCHANGE was the last program Lin Hwai-min, the former Artistic Director of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, curated before his retirement at the end of 2019. Lin invited Tao Ye, the Artistic Director of the Beijing-based TAO Dance Theater, and Cheng Tsung-lung, the current Artistic Director of Cloud Gate—to choreograph for each other's troupe and to present their works together on the stage with Lin's own work.
