The Puppet & Its Double Theater has been cultivating in the field of puppetry in Taiwan for 20 years, with its fantastic works having traveled to 15 different countries around the world. In-depth interactions between the actors and the audience are made possible through puppetry, which in turn shape the cultural density of our society, and even create opportunities for small towns to build on their local assets to strengthen their economies and provide better quality of life. After its founding, the Lìzé Puppet Art Colony not only strives to connect with local communities by inviting several experts from abroad to offer courses, but also starts an international artist exchange program to support professional artists to travel to unexpected international residences and become important members in the field of puppetry worldwide. Let us time travel with the Theater to experience its past 20 fabulous years together, and see what other interesting projects the Theater plans to do after its first twenty!

About The Cloud Gate Classroom
The Cloud Gate Classroom is held on Wednesday nights at the Cloud Gate Studio Theater. Everyone is welcome to join and learn about performing arts. Admission is free of charge.
Lecture topics are organized according to scheduled performances for the year at Cloud Gate Theater. Theater directors, producers, and curators are invited to share their in-depth knowledge and analysis on performing arts, allowing the audience to have a better understanding of the performances, their formats, and their underlying rationales. Audience will also gain a clearer view of the global trends in the performing arts industry.
CHENG Chia-yin began her theatre career in 1989 when she joined Lan Ling Theatre Workshop’s acting program. She graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Taiwan University in 1992 and received her Master’s degree in puppetry from University of Connecticut in the USA in 1999. In the same year, she returned to Taiwan and founded Puppet & Its Double Theater with her comrade artists. As its Artistic Director, CHENG has been known for her modern puppetry featuring multicultural perspectives and interdisciplinary aesthetics. Her unique and experimental theatrical style allows her to creatively explore and expand the dialogue between puppetry and audience. She has presented her works at various international art festivals, while many of the works were either nominated or listed as the finalists at Taishin Arts Award. CHENG is a dedicated artist not only in theatre production but also in international puppetry collaboration and professional puppet theatre education, with a zealous attempt to further liberate the artistic vocabulary of puppetry in Taiwan’s contemporary theatre. The modern puppet theatre scene in Taiwan would have not been the same without CHENG’s contribution.
