It is not uncommon to enjoy dance performances as a spectator, but it is more fun to actually dance with choreographers!
How is a series of dance moves in a dance piece conceptualized? Does each move have a special meaning attached? Does each dancer play a different role? Are you always surprised by the flexibility of the dancers and have tons questions?
The Cloud Gate Theater invites local choreographers to walk you through the choreography process so that you can have the firsthand experience yourself. Even if you have never learned to dance before, you could still easily be a “dancer”!
The workshop lasts for approximately two and half hours, and has a maximum capacity of 30 participants. We also offer a maximum of 50 seats for observers. The workshop is taught in Chinese.
As a dance artist, WANG Yeu-Kwn explores the alienation between man and society, focusing on the evolution of the body in different environments. Recently, he posed serious questions to the contemporary society through attempts of using various media to deconstruct dance. WANG only started to learn to dance during his college years, but had been a dancer for Cloud Gate 2, and was funded by the Cloud Gate Art Makers Project between 2016 and 2017. Lately, he presented his dance and choreographed works by collaborating with many performance troupes, including the Cloud Gate Theater, the HORSE Dance Theater, the One Player Short Ensemble, Les Petites Choses Production, Our Theatre, and the Chiayi New Style Choreography. WANG regularly holds proprioception workshops, and has been working on a dance project that helps amateurs and seniors develop their dancing skills. In 2019, he became an artist-in-residence at the Treasure Hill Artist Village in Taipei, a run-down community that has been revitalized into a nostalgic village with an artistic flair. Later in the same year, WANG was funded by the Cloud Gate Wanderer Project to travel to Indonesia to broaden his horizon and receive cultural nourishment from a divergent perspective.
LEE Yin-ying
LEE Yin-Ying is a dance artist who used to be a dancer and a rehearsal assistant at Cloud Gate 2. During her time at Cloud Gate, she performed works created by CHENG Tsung-lung, WU Kuo-chu, Bulareyaung Pagarlava, SUN Shang-chi, and HUANG Yi. She has also danced pieces choreographed by SU Wei-chia, CHOU Shu-yi, the Century Contemporary Dance Company, and the Lin HH Dance Company. LEE has been continuously under training for modern dance, ballet, Taichi-Dowing (a Daoist exercise), martial arts, butoh (a form of Japanese dance), and contact improvisation. She is constantly exploring new potential moves and developing unique ways of using the physical body. LEE currently holds body movement workshops for both professional and amateur dancers.
